  of quantum spins\, are very hard to study because the associated many-bod
 y Hilbert space is simply huge: its dimension grows exponentially with the
  size of the lattice. As a result\, not even the most powerful supercomput
 er on Earth is large enough to deal with the many-body state of\, say\, 60
  quantum spins. In recent years\, however\, progress in our understanding 
 of quantum entanglement has revealed that only a small region of this huge
  Hilbert space is actually relevant to the study of quantum many-body syst
 ems. Using tensor networks\, we have then been able to efficiently describ
 e some of the states in this small\, physically relevant region of the man
 y-body Hilbert space. In this talk\, directed to non-experts\, I will (i) 
 review our current understanding of many-body entanglement\, (ii) introduc
 e tensor networks as an efficient description of many-body states\, and (i
 ii) mention some of its current applications\, which nowadays includes qua

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Enrique Rico ()\nAn ab initio calculation of nuclear
  physics from Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD)\, the fundamental SU(3) gauge t
 heory of the strong interaction\, remains an outstanding challenge. Here\,
  we discuss the emergence of key elements of nuclear physics using an SO(3
 ) lattice gauge theory as a toy model for QCD. We show that this model is 
 accessible to state-of-the-art quantum simulation experiments with ultraco
 ld atoms in an optical lattice. First\, we demonstrate that our model shar
 es characteristic many-body features with QCD\, such as the spontaneous br
 eakdown of chiral symmetry\, its restoration at finite baryon density\, as
  well as the existence of few-body bound states. Then we show that in the 
 one-dimensional case\, the dynamics in the gauge invariant sector can be e
 ncoded as a spin S=3/2 Heisenberg model\, i.e.\, as quantum magnetism\, wh
 ich has a natural realization with bosonic mixtures in optical lattices\, 
 and thus sheds light on the connection between non-Abelian gauge theories
